The next Division of Psychology and Mental Health research seminar will be presented by Dr Samantha Hartley, Senior Clinical Psychologist ‘Like water off an egg’: Managing therapeutic relationships to enhance mental health care

Effective therapeutic relationships are key to positive change for people experiencing mental health difficulties. However, these relationships are challenging to develop and maintain, particularly with certain groups, such as adolescents with difficult histories and in challenging contexts, such as inpatient wards. In this seminar, Dr Hartley will outline evidence for the role of relationships in therapy and mental health care, before exploring mechanisms available to support staff to manage relationships and finally sharing specific experiences of therapeutic relationships from the perspectives of young people, staff and families.

Lunch will be available at the café/Hub in the Zochonis Building, for catering purposes, please email Dr Pearl Mok - pearl.mok@manchester.ac.uk - as soon as possible if you would like to attend this seminar.
