"Hidden Histories - The Women of the English Civil War" with Catherine Tindsley
2018 has become known by many as the ‘Year of the Woman’, and as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of some women getting the vote for the first time, Manchester Museum is celebrating the women whose achievements and contributions have been overlooked in the history books.
Every object has a story to tell, and this is definitely the case with the ‘siege money’ for the English Civil War. When we think of sieges and battles, we often imagine them as being completely dominated by men, however, through their very nature, many of those caught up in defending their homes and towns were women. From queens to grandmas, and from nurses to spies, this talk retells some of their stories.
