Further details:
The public health community faces a period of intense change and uncertainty in the wake of the Health and Social Care Bill and the NHS Future Forum, at a time when recession and public sector cuts threaten to increase health inequalities. The public health workforce in Greater Manchester needs to adapt to a series of challenges:
• Local authorities assuming responsibility for public health
• The development of commissioning roles for Clinical Senates and Health and Wellbeing Boards
• The establishment of Public Health England
• Reviewing and developing local health information and intelligence systems
However, there is also an unprecedented opportunity for the public health and research communities to collaborate in shaping and informing the new institutions that will assume responsibility for public health, and to ensure that future commissioning decisions address local health inequalities.
