Join us for the 14th Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law.
The 2018 conference, hosted by the Manchester International Law Centre at The University of Manchester, will take a hard and unflinching look at the multitude of roles and functions played by universality in international legal discourses as well as the in its associated narratives of progress and virtues. In doing so, it will provide a critical appraisal of the mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion that comes with international law and its universalist discursive strategies.
Specifically the conference will examine:
- Administrating, imposing, contracting universality
- Educating and speaking universality
- Opposing, resisting, transcending, ending universality
- Reclaiming and remembering universality
- Theorising, constructing, defining, diagnosing universality
- Arguing, discoursing, narrating universality
- Adjudicating, litigating, experiencing, debating universality
