Identifying Patent Risks in Technological Competition Based on Social Network Analysis
Identifying patent risk is a crucial way to assist technological innovation subjects to confront with fierce technological competition. In the era of knowledge economies, the global development of artificial intelligence (AI) has accelerated, and the number of patents has rapidly increased. However, AI industry still face various risks. Currently, on the topic of risks of AI, most of researchers focus on general researches in the technology, ethics, society and intellectual property rights fields. Fewer researchers pay attention to identify patent risks, especially from the perspectives of collaboration, market, and technology. In this study, we aim to propose a new and comprehensive approach to explore patent risks in the given technology field by integrating social network analysis and patent analysis. We consider patent documents as objective data source, which contain enormous and rich technical information to indicate patent risks for both public and private sector entities in their marketplace. This study helps technological innovation subjects in the AI technological field to prevent patent risks, find new technology opportunities, develop patent layout strategy, and can be applied to various other technology industries.
