Dr Juana Maria Delgado-Saborit, Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), joins us for a Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences seminar. Abstract below.
Dr Juana Maria Delgado-Saborit is an expert in combining environmental exposure assessment with epidemiological methodologies and geographical information system techniques to assess the effects of environmental pollutants on cognitive performance, neurodevelopment and mental health.
This seminar will present several case studies from a range of locations worldwide showing the effects of exposure to environmental pollution on the brain. This includes an evaluation of the effects of chronic exposure to metals on attention and executive function in children living near electronic waste recycling plants in Indonesia and in the general population in the megacity of Tehran (Iran). Results are shown for a study on the effects of air pollution on depressive symptoms in pre-adolescents living in Mexico DF and on cognitive performance in children participating in the Millennium Cohort Study in UK.
