A Practical Workshop for Third and Public Sector Leaders.

As part of National Productivity Week 2026 join us at Alliance Manchester Business School for a workshop designed specifically for leaders in the third and public sectors.

Productivity is often viewed as a private-sector concern, yet it hugely matters for public and third sector organisations facing tight budgets, rising demand and increasing accountability.

Too often framed as simply “doing more with less”, this workshop reframes it as the optimal use of resources to achieve better outcomes for people, organisations and places.

Led by Bart van Ark, Managing Director of The Productivity Institute, and executive education leader Claire-Marie Boggiano, the workshop offers a practical introduction to a strategic, outcomes-focused approach. It is aimed at leaders seeking actionable insights to strengthen organisational performance, impact and resilience.

Participants will explore:

  • How to define productivity meaningfully in mission-driven organisations
  • The difference between efficiency, effectiveness and long-term impact
  • The five priority areas of strategic productivity
  • Tools to diagnose challenges and identify high-leverage interventions
  • How to build a positive, inclusive productivity narrative
  • The session will be interactive, enabling participants to reflect on their own organisational challenges, share perspectives and leave with ideas they can apply immediately.

The morning begins with a networking breakfast and the workshop followed by an opportunity to continue conversations and build connections across the sector.

This workshop is a high-value standalone experience while providing an introduction into the broader Strategic Productivity programme at Alliance Manchester Business School.

About National Productivity Week:

National Productivity Week is a nationwide initiative dedicated to improving outcomes for people, firms and places across the UK. This national campaign brings together leading researchers, policy thinkers, industry partners and regional voices to kick off a week of new report launches, debate and knowledge-sharing.

This year’s overarching theme for National Productivity Week, “Better outcomes for people, firms and places,” reflects The Productivity Institute’s mission to ensure that productivity improvements translate into real benefits: higher living standards, better-quality jobs, stronger business performance and more prosperous local economies.
