Welcome to The University of Manchester Environment and Health Symposium!

Join the Manchester Environmental Research Institute and Sustainable Futures for engaging discussions and insightful presentations on work that focuses on the intersection of health and the environment. This in-person event will be held on Thursday 13th June 2024 in Room 3.44A in the Simon Building.

Health and well-being are intimately linked to the state of the environment. At The University of Manchester, we have lots of early career researchers working on issues relating to the environment and its effect on health, but they are spread across faculties, schools, and departments.

Through attending this event you will:

Develop a deeper understanding of the range of research happening at the University of Manchester in the area of ‘environment and health’ Build connections with fellow researchers working in complementary areas Have the opportunity to showcase your research to your peers The focus of this event is to bring the Early Career Researcher (ECR) community together but we welcome, and encourage staff at all levels to attend.

This event will provide a great opportunity to share your research and network with fellow ECRs in the field. Don't miss out on this chance to learn about the ongoing research and initiatives addressing this critical issue. See you there!

How can you get involved? The event is going to be a combination of talks, lightning sessions and a poster session with plenty of time for networking.

Early Career Researchers* We are inviting posters and lightning talks from ECRs on any topic related to the following themes: the impact of pollution on health, the impact of climate change on health and the impact of green space on health.

You can express interest in presenting a lightning talk, bringing along a poster to display, or both options.

If you are interested in displaying a poster or providing a lightening talk at the symposium please fill out the form linked here (https://tinyurl.com/4exavff6) by Wednesday 1 May 2024 (23:59 BST).

We will also be considering posters and talks from ECRs whose research fits more broadly with the theme of ‘environment's effect on health’ so we encourage you to submit.

Supervisors and academics Please attend and support ECRs participation and attendance at the event. By doing this you will be helping to develop a connected and interdisciplinary research community.

  • An Early Career Researcher is an individual employed in a non-permanent research position, or someone holding a fellowship or junior academic post who has less than 8 years of post-doctoral research experience
