Join us for our next community of practice exploring the challenges and complexities facing migrant- and refugee-led organisations. In this session, we’ll focus on platforming the experiences of displaced people, migrants, and forced refugees – much-needed voices in our community of practice.

We’ll hear the story of Alimamy Bangura, a disability rights advocate who promotes the rights of disabled people and the LGBTQ community. In his home country of Sierra Leone, Alimamy was a politician and the only person with a disability to stand as a member of parliament in the 2018 general election. Alimamy fled Sierra Leone following the election, receiving refugee status in the UK in 2019.

We’ll also hear from Fabiola Mieres, a researcher in the Effective Labour Market Institutions Team at the ILO Research Department. Fabiola has a diverse range of academic, policy and private sector experience, and has published on labour migration, recruitment, and worker-driven social responsibility initiatives to address forced labour in global supply chains.

You don't have to have a previous community of practice to take part - all welcome!
