This seminar will open up discussion on cinema in the Middle East as a popular means of visual representation, and how cinema has in particular displayed as well as celebrated the vital presence of visual culture in people’s everyday life and the reflection of the society’s “mass and popular culture.” The contemporary emergence of numerous Middle Eastern filmmakers on the international scene, addressing diverse social and cultural issues in their films, has played a significant role in raising awareness in public about cultural identity formations in Middle Eastern societies.
