Workshop: How to maximise policy impact, locally and via UK Parliament
Delivered by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST), including a speaker from the Greater Manchester Combined Authorities (GMCA)
The program begins with a regional angle, provided by a GMCA representative who will give a short overview of how research can help to shape policy and thinking in Greater Manchester, looking at different ways to engage and the resulting benefits.
The POST workshop gives an overview of how UK Parliament uses research, and covers ways to work with the institution including details on Select Committees, legislative scrutiny, the House of Commons and House of Lords libraries, and POST. The sessions will be interactive and practical, delivered by Parliament’s Knowledge Exchange unit. You will leave with an understanding of how research is used in the UK Parliament, and able to identify opportunities to feed your research into Parliament’s work.
The afternoon session will focus on how to maximise REF impact, and how Parliament is feeding into the new knowledge exchange framework (KEF). It is envisaged that academics and PS staff involved with REF 2021, for example UOA Leads/Impact Leads, School Research Directors, KE&IOs
