What’s on Your Mind Manchester? Big Draw
Coordinated by Stanley Grove Primary Academy
Stanley Grove Primary Academy and schools across Manchester have created a citywide Big Draw for you to enjoy! The theme for the Big Draw 2019 is ‘Drawn to Life’ with the aim to ‘celebrate and explore the benefits of being actively creative to make positive change and improve wellbeing.’ 10,000 school pupils were recruited across our city to each create an origami hat, and decorate it with words and drawings showing whatever was on their mind.
One aim was to promote good mental health by encouraging children to express their thoughts and feelings. The hats are incredibly varied. Some hats show likes and interests children were thinking about, such as dinosaurs, playing, Minecraft, and sweets. Others are a deeper delve into the young artists worries, concerns dreams and ambitions. The hats are a snapshot of what is on the minds of Manchester’s young people.
The hats are on display in ten of our city’s cultural buildings for a one-day only ‘take-over’ event for people to view, try on, take selfies with, share on social media and enjoy.
