Established in October 2019, the ensemble is directed by Dr Alexander Gagatsis, lecturer in Jazz Studies, and takes the form of a little big band, a smaller version of the conventional 18-piece big band. The ensemble is joined by Simon Industrial & Professional Fellows composer and trumpeter Yazz Ahmed and three-time Grammy-awarded percussionist Carlos Maldonado, premiering new music composed especially for this concert.
The Thursday lunchtime concerts are part of the Walter Carroll Lunchtime Concert Series, which is supported by the Ida Carroll Trust. They provide a wide-ranging programme to suit all tastes and are an ideal opportunity to enjoy great music performed by outstanding musicians.
There’s no need to book – the concerts are free and you can just turn up on the day.
