Drop in to explore Manchester’s queer culture, pop music, and nightlife in this hands-on session inspired by our temporary exhibition: The Secret Public: LGBTQ Pop 1955–1985, featuring objects from The British Pop Archive. Discover how LGBTQ life in Manchester has been shaped by, and helped shape, music, media, and the city itself. With a spotlight on Buzzcocks, the Hacienda and ‘City Life’ magazine - our team will be offering insight into the stories behind the collections. Whether you’re a music fan, a club culture historian, or just curious, stop by to uncover the queer stories woven into Manchester’s cultural DNA.
The British Pop Archive (BPA) is a national collection based at the John Rylands Library, dedicated to preserving and exploring British popular culture, youth culture, and counter-culture. With strong roots in Manchester’s creative history, the BPA shines a light on the people and movements that have shaped modern British life.
