The State of Ireland,1914 is a one-day conference that takes advantage of an awakened public interest in the formation of the Irish state and its impact upon the United Kingdom. The Irish and Northern Irish states are currently undergoing a centenary decade of commemoration, lasting from 2012 until 2022. During these years a great deal of public attention will be directed towards commemorating landmark events that led to the formation of the modern Irish state, including revolution, partition and socio-economic transformation. This conference takes the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War as a point of departure to offer a historical snapshot of Ireland on the eve of significant transformation.
The conference is supported by the Economic History Society and the Irish Diaspora Foundation. Abstracts of 200 words should be sent to the organisers by email by the 31st of March 2014.
Organising Committee: Dr. Patrick Doyle and Dr. Katherine Fennelly.
