The quantity of data collected during professional football games has increased enormously over the last decade, as has the demand for techniques for gaining competitive advantage through data-driven insights. In this talk I will discuss some of the methods used by teams to extract information from data to support decision- making, both on and off the pitch. l will demonstrate how tracking data can be used to dynamically measure, classify, and study team formations, and introduce techniques for analysing the synchronised runs ('routines') made by the attacking players in corner kick situations. Finally, I will discuss some of the other areas in which data can be used to support decision-making by professional sports teams.
Refreshments will be served in the foyer from 4pm.
