Join us at a special seminar to celebrate International Women’s Day with our colleagues, students, and public contributors.

This session will be a relaxed and informal opportunity to learn more about International Women’s Day, the issues facing women in academia, the University’s commitments to gender equality and hear from colleagues about their own experiences and contributions.

Speakers

• Prof Arpana Verma – Head of the Division of Population Health, Primary Care and Health Services Research

• Dr Sudeh Cheraghi-Sohi – Research Fellow and Deputy School of Health Sciences Athena SWAN Lead

• Dr Jonathan Hammond – Research Fellow and Division Athena SWAN Lead

• A selection of colleagues sharing their own experiences of working in academia

Summary

This session is a chance to hear more about what it is like being a woman in academia and how we can all support working towards gender equality. Key topics will include:

• What the Division and University more widely are doing to support gender equality

• Issues and barriers women in academia face and how we can work together to overcome them

• An introduction to the Athena SWAN charter

We will also be hearing from colleagues in a range of different roles about their own experiences and celebrating the contribution our female colleagues make to Centre and Division more widely. There will also be a chance to hear about the International Women’s Day reading list we have crowdsourced from across FBMH if you are in need of some non-academic reading inspiration!

There will be a Q&A and discussion time at the end of the session.
