Join us in the beautiful Portico Library in Central Manchester for a fascinating discussion between Liang Hong, Liu Zhenyun and Peter Gries on some of the best upcoming Chinese literature in translation.
Manchester China Institute (MCI) and Sinoist Books are thrilled to introduce the two premier Chinese authors to the English reading public, in a bilingual conversation moderated by MCI Director Peter Gries, with the support of Dr Zhaokun Xin.
Speakers
Liu Zhenyun
Role: Chinese author
Biography: Liu Zhenyun is an author of novels, short stories and screenplays. His honours and awards are numerous, including the Mao Dun Literature Prize and France’s Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Liang Hong
Role: Chinese author
Biography: Liang Hong is an award-winning writer, essayist, and professor. She is known for her trailblazing focus on rural people’s stories.
Peter Gries
Role: Politics Professor
Organisation: University of Manchester
Biography: Prof Peter Gries is the Lee Kai Hung Chair and Director of Manchester China Institute. He holds degrees from Middlebury, Michigan, and Berkeley, and has authored books and edited journals on China-US relations.
Zhaokun Xin
Role: Chinese Studies Lecturer
Organisation: University of Manchester
Biography: Dr Zhaokun Xin is Lecturer in Chinese Cultural Studies at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on Ming-Qing literature and culture, affect theory, gender and sexuality studies, and Sino-Japanese literary exchanges.
