‘Bannockburn to Brexit 1314-2014’ – Philipp Roessner’s Inaugural Lecture
For more than seven centuries Scotland has been part of Europe. Its links with Europe, including the German-speaking lands, have often been ignored, dismissed, and downplayed. Scotland was never an island, Scotland was never insular.
Join Philipp Roessner, Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Manchester at his inaugural lecture for a fascinating discussion of how Scotland became European, and how Scots shaped our modern world.
At this event, Professor Roessner will share insights into his research journey, which encompasses such topics as 18th century Scottish overseas trade, currency, peasant wars and Martin Luther, the Enlightenment and the origins of the modern economic mind.
