That where you are can dictate how you are is increasingly and abundantly clear. Health outcomes in the north of the UK across numerous metrics, are poorer, whether it is for children, old people, or at any point of life in between.
Research from Health Equity North has found a worrying pattern of lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality rates and worse health and wellbeing in the North of England than elsewhere in the country. And the recent IPPR report, Healthy Places, Prosperous Lives, has shown that the UK now has among the largest health inequalities of any advanced economy, with one in every four people in England and Wales who are economically inactive living in the unhealthiest 50 local authorities.
How can these place-based inequalities be addressed to ensure fairer and healthier futures for communities across the country?
As part of the N8’s UP North series, join Jen Williams, Northern Correspondent for the Financial Times, and an expert panel to discuss how to ‘level up’ health outcomes. Speakers will include Dr Luke Munford, University of Manchester, Efua Poku-Amanfo, IPPR, Orla McCann, Unlimited Potential, and Chris Falconer, Local Trust.
