Pliable present NEAR TO, devised by the company
My mum’s life is like a dress she wears proudly. It’s glamorous and expensive, yet at a close look one can see the moth bitten parts; the holes which reveal her skin and most vulnerable parts.
As a child, I remember liking the idea of mending it, imagining the missing fabric, the secret thread patterns once there, now disappeared. Piecing together fragments from my mother’s life - a group of skillful improvisers try to fill in the gaps, placing new fabric over the missing stories, just like I did when I was young.
Near to asks us where and how memories are fabricated. It’s a show about our need for a coherent personal story- a dress without holes. A show that explores the moments where reality and fiction collide.
Warning – this performance contains strong language.
