Drew Mackie
Community network mapping and analysis
Originally an architect and planner, Drew has been mapping community and health networks for many years. Based in Edinburgh, he has used network mapping and analysis to identify key organisations and individuals in projects throughout the UK and Ireland. He uses the Graph Commons and Kumu online netmapping systems to identify clusters and centralities and the sumApp online data collection system to feed the maps directly. Present work covers:
- working with systems change managers in the East Riding of Yorkshire to map community projects
- assisting the Health Foundation in mapping the ‘Q’ quality improvement programme throughout the NHS in the UK and Ireland
- creating and analysing a netmap of black activist groups and individuals in Manchester for the Ubele African diaspora organisation
- mapping the network of issues and organisations around black unemployed over 35 in Lambeth
- creating an interactive netmap of organisations involved in emergency food supple during Covid in Islington for the Octopus Community Network of community centres
The presentation will cover how he uses these software packages together and give example drawn from the above. The session is not about the theory of networks. It’s about the practical application of the network mapping approach.
