21 June, 6-9pm. Free ArtReach and Journeys 2018 are hosting a unique takeover of our gallery. The event celebrates 20 years of Refugee Week with international sounds, performances and creativity from around the world.

Join us for a work in progress, multi artform presentation of ‘Sombre Dreams’ by DIPACT, a new commission by the Whitworth and ArtReach. DIPACT is a 'Diverse/Digital Innovative Platform for Arts, Communities and Technology/Theatre' for diverse artists from any background. Their new work responds to Isaac Julien’s Ten Thousand Waves film installation, currently on display. DIPACT will also create a film installation as part of the visual art exhibition.

We are also proud to welcome Women of Courage, a group of asylum seekers and refugees to share a new series of monologs, poetry and fictions they have written. ‘Survivors’ has been developed through attending writing and drama workshops led by Fereshteh Mozaffari in collaboration between Commonword, RAPAR and Sheba Arts. Fereshteh will also be performing extracts from her one woman show ‘One More Push’.

As well as this, you will be able to take part in Manchester City of Sanctuary’s conversation club and craftivism with Asylum Matters. The evening will conclude with a musical finale from Manchester International Roots Orchestra with a whirl wind trip around the globe, featuring a new work for solo Double Bass, by Michael Cretu. ‘Dance and Improvisation’ is dedicated to those that lost their lives in the Morecombe cockle pickers tragedy that inspired Isaac Julien’s Ten Thousand Waves.

21-23 June: Join us to celebrate the talents and stories of refugee and asylum seeker visual artists who now call the city home with a new pop up exhibition of their work installed in the Grand Hall. Artists Include: DIPACT, Jamal Jameel, Si ieng Fung, Amang Mardokhy, Sami Ferge, Hasan Haji Rashid, Chinar Najib, Sardar Abudllah, Kani Kamil, Mei Yuk Wong.
