Our End of Term lecture is dedicated to an important humanitarian issue we face in our own community. A growing number of people in the UK, including in Manchester, are sleeping rough. We are discussing this issue with Danny Collins (tour guide at Invisible Manchester), who will speak of his own experiences with homelessness. Alice Sparks (Head of Invisible Manchester) and Nicola Sansom (CEO and Co-founder of S.A.L.V.E. International) will contribute to the discussion by discussing how their organisations seek to address homelessness in Britain and in sub-saharan Africa. How have our ideas to tackle homelessness evolved over time? What kind of solutions have proven helpful? And what can we do to help?

Free tickets available on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/79684962869

Event format: Welcome and introduction by Chair, Krishnan Patel prior, to individual presentations by Danny, Alice and Nicola. A audience Q&A session will then proceed followed, by a networking session at 6pm. Free drinks and snacks will be available.

Please note this event is open to members of the public.

Danny Collins

Role: Tour Guide

Organisation: Invisible (Manchester)

Biography: Danny is an adopted Mancunion who was homeless for four and a half years. He started writing poetry after taking part in a creative skills workshop, run by the Arthur and Martha production company for those experiencing homelessness. This learning experience inspired Danny and ignited his love of writing, as well as rebuilding his confidence, helping him move off the streets. Nowadays Danny spends his time raising awareness about homelessness, and how you can help. His tour is a thoughtful and poetic exploration that will transport you to the flip side of Manchester, beyond the mere surface of its tourist attractions and into the depths of Danny’s own experience of homelessness in the city.
