Music and Migration: Songs Performance
Music and Migration: Songs Performance
Saturday 16 November
2-4pm
Visit the Museum for a celebration of Bengali folk music in the North West. The exhibition will recall how singing was of vital importance to Bangladeshi immigrants arriving to work in its mills and factories in the 1950s and 1960s. Young people are particularly welcome to come along and experience how collective singing of and listening to these songs provided critical succour to their forefathers in a time of displacement and upheaval
Come and have a look at the range of very different kinds of instruments used in Bangla music, from the perhaps better known harmonium and tabla to the much lesser known ektara and khomok. The sounds they produce will astonish and please you.
