On Wednesday, 14 December 2022 at 4pm, we will have Dr Richard Wakeford presenting on Risks from Exposure to Ionising Radiation - What Have We Learnt from Epidemiological Studies?
Prof. Richard Wakeford is an honorary professor in Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care at School of Health Sciences. He has substantial expertise in epidemiology and risk assessment of ionizing radiation.
Dr. Wakeford has worked on many research projects involving exposure to radiation and has published and lectured extensively in the field of radiation epidemiology and risk assessment. He was Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Radiological Protection from 1997 to 2022 and is a member of the Editorial Board of British Journal of Cancer.
He has been a member of a number of U.K., European Union, and international expert groups, including Committee 1 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, and the U.K. Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment. Following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident, he was a member of the U.K. Government’s Scientific Advice Group for Emergencies and the World Health Organization’s Health Risk Assessment Expert Working Group on the Fukushima accident.
