Nicky is Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work where she is Divisional Lead for Undergraduate Nursing (Adult) and Lead of the Wounds Research Group.

Professor Ann Caress | 'Patient and Public Involvement in Research - Some Developments and Proposals'

My primary research interests relate to living with and managing long-term health problems in adults. I am particularly interested in self-management in long-term health problems, service user involvement (especially in treatment decision-making), patient education/health information, service delivery and organisation (including novel and user-led approaches) and health outcomes. Most of my research to date has been undertaken with patients with renal disease, respiratory problems and cancer and with the lay carers of some of these patients.

Alex Hall | Exploring the implementation of monitoring technologies in care homes

I am currently undertaking a PhD funded by the Medical Re-search Council and the UoM President's Doctoral Scholar Award. My research explores the implementation of 'monitoring' technologies, such as bed-exit alarms or location and activity trackers, in care homes for people with dementia. I am particularly interested in why and how such technologies are used, and their implications for the work involved in delivering care.
