Can sketching, graphics and illustration help us to think about research in new ways? How might they transform the ways we think about research data and outputs?

Join us for a discussion on sketching, illustration and graphics as tools in academic research. We will invite a panel of artists and researchers to discuss their experiences in creating and using graphics in the process of research and to talk about the role of sketching and illustration in research projects.

Preceding the panel discussion, we will be hosting a drinks reception and a private view of Teenage Kicks: Girls growing up in Britain 1956-1974 – Andrea’s Story. We will also be showcasing some of the work of graphic artist Dominque Brouwers, who has recently collaborated with University of Manchester researchers on the Air Space Project.

Teenage Kicks: Girls growing up in Britain 1956-1974 - Andrea’s Story.

This exhibition shares the stories of eight girls, who were teenagers and young women between 1956 and 1974, a time of huge social, economic and cultural change in Britain, based on the research of Professor Penny Tinkler. We will be showing the story of one girl, Andrea, in the Glass Corridor Exhibition Space in November and December 2024.
