The DIAD beamline at Diamond Light Source is a new dual-beam instrument for quasi-simultaneous full-field imaging and powder diffraction. DIAD enables its users to visualise internal structures (in 2- and 3D) as well as identify and measure compositional and strain changes. DIAD will enable in-situ and in-operando experiments that require spatially correlated results from both X-ray Computed Tomography and X-ray Powder Diffraction (Fig.1).

This 2-hour seminar is directed at post-doctoral researchers, established scientists, and academics in the fields of Material Science, Bioengineering, Geophysics, and energy storage.

The seminar will be delivered in two parts. The first part will provide a brief introduction to the capabilities of DIAD and present recent experiments at the beamline showcasing the power of correlative imaging and diffraction. In the second part, we will divide into separate breakout rooms and scientist will be available for 1-2-1 or group discussion and advice on beamtime proposal writing for DIAD.

The timing of this workshop is to take advantage of the next deadline for the allocation period 32:

• Call opens: 1st week of March 2022 • Call closes: 1st week of April2022 • AP32 beamtime: Sept. 2022 – Feb 2023

This is the eleventh seminar in The University of Manchester at Harwell Ideas Forum Imaging series. The aim of this series is to increase networking of academics and researchers across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the National Laboratories. In doing so, we hope to share expertise and support new collaborations and grant applications.

This seminar will be recorded and available to watch after the event. A zoom link will be sent to attendees the day before the seminar.
