Making bespoke garments a sustainable reality requires the integration of different skills and a well-informed development plan. This 2hr online session provides an opportunity to hear about some developments supporting bespoke, as well as feed into decisions about how we can do bespoke and set a clear shared research agenda. Following the presentation there will be four breakout discussions focusing on four stages, body scanning, data processing, pattern development and AR/VR Fit, that are central to us realising bespoke and harnessing digital skills. The outcome of these discussion will be captured and shared with all participants post meeting. We can make the clothing industry better, but only by working together.
Technology offers great opportunities to address sustainable goals and reduce waste in the clothing industry, as well as develop better fitting and functioning garments. However, a declining skills base and a reliance on exploitative labour practices are one barrier to achieving some of these things. This session will introduce research and development in the industry and then provide an opportunity for breakout room discussion around four key areas central to improving how we realise more sustainable clothing practices. Having technology is beneficial, but without a broad skills base it will struggle to gain purchase and we need to consider how we determine bottlenecks in skills and knowledge to focus research and development agenda.
Having a collective understanding of how technology can be harnessed and how we might develop and sustain skills is important and this session should provide a platform to feed in different perspectives and create documentation that can be shared to help us all
