Did you know that the Northwest of England holds some of the rarest Indigenous manuscripts that have survived the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, as well as other important Mesoamerican manuscripts from the colonial era? Join us at the Library for the opportunity to see the collection of Native American manuscripts held at the John Rylands Library, as well as to delve into the historical significance of the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer, held at the nearby World Museum Liverpool. We will be exploring the origins and trajectories, meanings, and production techniques of these valuable manuscripts. There will also be the opportunity to create your own codices (books) in a workshop led by artist and researcher José Sherwood González, receiving guidance and hands-on experience, connecting with the rich cultural heritage of Mesoamerica first-hand.
