Date: Wednesday 25 June 2025

Time: 10am to 12pm

Location: MS Teams

Target audience: Anyone interested in learning about clinical trials at Manchester BRC, The University of Manchester and the BRC’s partner NHS Trusts.

As part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre’s (BRC) Training Event and Seminar Series, the BRC’s Next Generation Therapeutics Theme is launching an Early Phase Trial Programme, which will begin with Session 1 on Wednesday 25 June.

The session aims to give a short introduction to clinical research, including background about clinical trials, how this differs from observational research, and types of clinical trial (early vs. late phase, diagnostic studies, drug vs complex interventions).

It will also cover information about practical aspects including formulating a research question, and things to think about when building your research plan – team make up, and aspects to consider when grant writing. A full agenda will be circulated in the next few weeks.

The session will be led by Dr Matt Parkes, Senior Biostatistician and Programme Lead in Manchester BRC’s Next Generation Therapeutics Theme.

It is open to new investigators and anyone involved in clinical trials at Manchester BRC, The University of Manchester and the BRC’s NHS partner Trusts: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

Session 2 onwards will be scheduled for later in 2025.
