"The Whitworth Art Gallery (which is part of the University of Manchester) is running 2 different workshops in July specifically for MAP students. This will be a great opportunity to visit the Gallery, explore some of its collection and take part in some activities. The workshops will also link in to some routes of study at the University. Be inspired when mathematics and art combine in the exhibition Construction, where artists draw on the Golden Section and Fibonacci's Numbers to construct their compositions. So what is it that makes the Golden Harmony ratio create more interesting compositions? How and why do Fibonacci's numbers work in nature. What makes it and effective ratio in so many disciplines? Bring your personal views to this interesting debate. This workshop aims to develop students’ confidence and communication skills through thought-provoking and dynamic discussion and make interesting connections from primary sources such as art and university courses. This event will particularly interest aspiring Mathematicians, Scientists and Artists.
The Manchester Access Programme (MAP) is a structured scheme for local post-16 students who meet specific academic and background criteria. The aim of the programme is to support entry to The University of Manchester, or another research-intensive university, through the completion of a portfolio of work which demonstrates specific knowledge and skills.
