Speaker: Mr Simon Morton and James Irving

Further details: The drug and alcohol treatment landscape is changing, with a new emphasis of the process of recovery from dependence which, as the government’s own strategy notes, means “different things to different people”. There are a multitude of routes to recovery. Factors that promote or inhibit recovery have both individual and social dimensions and the recovery process requires a ‘whole systems’ approach that goes far beyond current treatment interventions. The localism agenda may result in substantial diversity in approaches to promoting recovery. How should researchers make sense of this complex landscape and how can research best provide evidence to inform the shifting emphasis? The aim of this meeting is to start to identify a set of key questions around which we can develop proposals for research and to identify a core group of colleagues to take those questions forward. This is an interactive, interdisciplinary workshop; it’s an opportunity for researchers, clinicians /addiction treatment personnel, policy makers and postgraduate students from different backgrounds to share expertise, hear new research, develop collaborations and investigate the possibilities for joint activities.
