Have you considered writing a trade book? What are the pros and cons of presenting academic research for a general readership, and what techniques of writing do you need to employ? How do you approach a publisher with a proposal for a trade book, and how does this process differ from writing a book targeted at primarily academic audiences?

This event brings together editors from Yale University Press, Harper Collins, and Manchester University Press to guide you through the process of preparing a trade book and approaching an editor.

The panel will discuss the relative merits of trade versus academic books, the creation of a suitable proposal, the work of literary agents, and the current field of popular history-writing. The event is aimed primarily at those looking to publish in the discipline of History and related fields, but should be useful to academics at different career levels and stages of writing.

There will be a drinks reception at the end of the event where the audience can mingle and chat with the editors informally.

To register, or if you have any questions about this event, please email Dr Eloise Moss: Eloise.Moss@manchester.ac.uk

The event is kindly hosted and supported by CIDRAL, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts and Languages.
