This session is suitable for MA/MSc students. A separate session for PhD students will be held on 4 May 2017.
This course aims to improve academic writing. It will provide students with tips for good academic writing and strategies for the writing process. The first half of the course will involve small group work and class discussion. Students will be asked to reflect on and share their experiences of the writing process. They will then be given writing excerpts to analyse in order to introduce, and consider the impact of, different writing styles.
Course objectives
1. To introduce and consider different writing styles
2. To encourage students to think about their reader when writing
3. To introduce the importance of clarity and structure when writing
4. To consider some strategies for writing
The session will be presented by Eleanor Hill. Eleanor is a third year PhD student in the Politics department at the University of Manchester.
