The UK energy market has undergone significant changes over the past 20 years. The amount of energy generated by renewable sources has increased dramatically, coal plants are closing and the remaining fossil plant (coal and CCGT)
are required to operate flexibly to make up any shortfalls in renewable generation. The lecture will give an overview of the impact of these changes on the materials in fossil plant, as well as covering some of the materials challenges in wind turbines.
A buffet will be provided from 6.00pm in the MSS foyer and everybody is welcome.
