Linglong Yuan (University of Liverpool) will speak at the Probability seminar. (in-person)
Kingman introduced, in 1978, a simple population model with discrete generations and infinite population size to analyse the competition between mutation and selection. This model is of a deterministic nature and was later known as the famous ``House of Cards'' model. In this talk, we will introduce a random version of Kingman's model where the mutation probabilities from all generations form an i.i.d. sequence. We will show the convergence of the fitness distributions and a phase transition phenomenon regarding whether there will be a condensation or not in the limit distribution. An interesting comparison between Kingman's model and the random variant is to see how adding extra randomness perturbs a complex system.
