Chaired by Professor Farooq Naeem from the University of Toronto this experimental workshop will briefly cover the theory and empirical basis of cognitive behaviour therapy for patients with schizophrenia, with a focus on learning the basic techniques and strategies.
Participants are expected to have gone through the Low-Intensity CBTp Manual. Topics covered will include, formulation, normalization, working with delusions, working with hallucinations, and working with negative symptoms. The workshop will mainly use video and practice role plays, brainstorming and group exercises. This workshop will focus on concepts underpinning CBT for psychosis and the basic techniques to use techniques to address negative and positive symptoms for those with schizophrenia.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Mental health professionals working with persons with schizophrenia and academics working in the relevant fields.
At the end of this session, participants will: 1) be able to have some understanding of the theoretical assumptions behind traditional CBT for psychosis; 2) become aware of current developments in CBT for psychosis; and 3) be able to use CBT for psychosis techniques in their clinical setting This event is in-person only and registration is mandatory.
