Join the GM Policy Hub on Wednesday, 11 June for seminar which will explore how local authorities can set, review, and address their climate change targets.
In 2020, it was reported that more than 300 local authorities across the UK had declared a climate emergency and in response many set ambitious climate change targets. However, five years on it is expected that most local authorities who set climate change targets are not yet on track and may exceed their carbon budgets.
Every tenth of a degree of global warming matters for safety and economic prosperity, so meeting targets must include a strong commitment to reducing local greenhouse gas emissions at a faster rate. Local authorities need effective planning for extreme and uncertain weather patterns, and it is imperative that they understand whether local decision-making is helping or hindering progress.
How should local authorities respond if they miss their current targets and what new approaches can implemented going forward?
Join Dr Chris Jones, Knowledge Exchange Fellow at Tyndall Manchester and Samantha Nicholson, Director of Manchester Climate Change Agency, to explore and discuss how local authorities can evolve their response to climate change targets in a new and changing context.
When: Wednesday 11 June, 1:00pm – 2:30pm (with registration and light lunch from 12:30pm).
