Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming engineering practice, creating new opportunities and challenges. This online Lunch and Learn explores how AI is being used in real-world engineering environments, what happens when AI moves from supporting decisions to taking action, and why human judgement remains critical to safety.

Join Prof Clara Cheung as she draws on real-world engineering examples and research into human–robot collaboration to examine how we can harness the benefits of AI while maintaining meaningful human control and managing risks responsibly.

Speaker

Professor Clara Cheung

Role: Professor of Engineering Management and Digital Transformation

Organisation: The University of Manchester

Biography: Clara's research examines how emerging technologies can be adopted and managed to improve organisational performance and workforce outcomes, particularly in complex engineering environments. Drawing on engineering management, organisational psychology and human-centred approaches, Clara investigates how technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics reshape organisational processes, decision-making, workforce capabilities and management practices. A particular focus of Clara's work is the responsible adoption and governance of these technologies to enhance workforce safety, health and wellbeing, alongside broader organisational and sustainability outcomes.
