Unfolding Stories: Sketching the Everyday
See the everyday world a little differently, with this free exhibition from urban sketcher and award-winning illustrator, Lynne Chapman.
The exhibition features over fifty metres of beautiful sketches, produced during Lynne’s year as Leverhulme artist-in-residence at the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives, part of the University of Manchester.
All the work on display was painted in real time, on the spot, capturing the stories of people and places. Lynne adds her own observations as she sketches, weaving text into the images, creating lively and often funny incites into what is happening around her as she works.
Try some of Lynne’s sketching ideas for yourselves on our sketching table – it doesn’t matter whether you are already a keen sketcher or a complete beginner (or even one of those adults who says ‘I can’t even draw stick-men’). There are lots of simple tips from Lynne to get you started, so why not give it a go?
The exhibition is open from 10-5pm most days but please check our website for exact times. We are closed on Sunday 31 July.
We will also be holding two family workshops during the exhibition, on 26 July and 1 August for adults and children aged 9 and up (workshops are free but you will need to register to get a place).
