This one-day event will provide a chance for those overseeing recruitment into American Studies (and closely-related fields) to discuss the present state of undergraduate admissions. How have UG applications into American Studies changed since the introduction of increased tuition fees in 2012? How do young people find out about American Studies, and what do they know about opportunities for studying it at university? What are the best ways of marketing an American Studies degree, and of widening access to the field for undergraduate applicants?
The event is intended principally for those who hold admissions responsibilities within UK American Studies programmes, and is likely to appeal to either an admissions officer or programme director.
The programme will cover four main areas:
(1) The State of UG Recruitment into American Studies
(2) Running a Successful Admissions Cycle
(3) Outreach and Working with Schools
(4) The Public Profile of American Studies
To register please send an email to Andrew Fearnley (andrew.fearnley-2@manchester.ac.uk).
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
