Innovation, Growth and the Transition to Net Zero Emissions
In the UK, the transition to Net Zero, the economic impact of the pandemic and current cost of living crisis occur against a background of particularly poor productivity performance and large inequalities. Together, these imply an urgent need for a new environmentally sustainable and inclusive approach to growth. Investments in “clean” innovation and its diffusion are key to shaping this. This talk will explore theoretical and empirical evidence on the opportunities, drivers and policies for innovation-led sustainable growth. It will highlight findings from forward-looking analyses that identify the UK’s strengths in clean technologies, products and services, helping to inform innovation and growth policies this decade and beyond.
Anna Valero is a Senior Policy Fellow at the LSE's Centre for Economic Performance, Deputy Director of the Programme on Innovation and Diffusion (POID) and an Associate of the Grantham Research Institute.
