Aleksandr Mosolov String Quartet No. 1 in A minor
Boris Tishchenko String Quartet No. 1
The unflinching modernism of Aleksandr Mosolov’s first string quartet (1926) meant
that it was never performed within his lifetime. The first quartet of Boris Tishchenko was written as he graduated from the composition class of Galina Ustvolskaya in 1957.
Followed at 2.30pm by
Seminar: Prof. Barry Cooper tells us the fascinating story of the genesis of
Beethoven’s Op. 131 String Quartet.
The Thursday lunchtime concerts are part of the Walter Carroll Lunchtime Concert Series, which is supported by the Ida Carroll Trust. They provide a wide-ranging programme to suit all tastes and are an ideal opportunity to enjoy great music performed by outstanding musicians. There's no need to book, the concerts are free and you can just turn up on the day.
