Working with 21st Century students

Students come to the Higher Education environment as part of a student journey where there past experiences have shaped their learning, resilience and expectations of future learning experiences and their ability to succeed and cope. Each learner has developed a range of strategies to support their learning experiences. In some cases these approaches can also hinder progress and perceived success. Understanding students skills, expectations and needs enables us to develop a learning environment to help them succeed both during their time at University and beyond.

Masterclass overview (3 hours)

This masterclass has been designed to run using a flexible and tailored approach to meet individual participant’s needs. The masterclass will explore the experiences and expectations of students and how we can best support them through the learning environment.

Intended learning outcomes

• Understanding how the student journey impacts on future learning experiences • Recognise the role of digital literacy as part of the student experience • Explore how students and staff bring different experiences to the learning environment • Explore how a smarter curriculum can be designed to more effectively meet the teaching and learning needs of students and staff. • Understand how student’s experiences and expectations impact on their future career aspirations.
