The John Rylands Research Institute and Library, Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Museum have teamed up to spotlight the city’s remarkable Chinese collections and archives in this live, online event. Join Professor Michael Wood OBE, to explore surprising histories of diversity, commerce and sciences. Bringing together community groups, curators and researchers, this event places new research with Chinese collections at the forefront and asks about the impact of their renewed study. Includes live Q&A.
Professor Michael Wood OBE was appointed Professor of Public History at The University of Manchester in 2013. He is a broadcaster and author, presenting documentaries on everything from China to Shakespeare over the last few decades.
Professor Yang-Wen Zheng joined the University of Manchester in 2007 and is Professor of Chinese History. She is the editor (with Richard Madsen of UC San Diego) of the "Alternative Sinology" series published by Manchester University Press and an editorial board member for Modern Asian Studies and for the Journal of Social and Economic History of the Orient.
Professor Peter Gries joined the University of Manchester as Professor of Chinese Politics in August 2017. In December 2017 he became the Lee Kai Hung Chair and founding Director of the Manchester China Institute.
