Blood cancer: Immunology’s ‘dark web’
Biography:
I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University and Consultant Haematologist at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. My current MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship focuses on the transcriptional characterisation of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. My team and collaborative network use single cell and spatial transcriptomics to understand a range of high-risk blood/ lymphoid cancers. Following on from my doctoral training in immunology, I am particularly interested in the parallel between normally functioning immune cells (the surface web), and malignant blood/ lymphoid cells (the dark web), detailing how mutations and tissue context permit malignant cells to adopt certain phenotypes.
