As part of the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science School Seminar Series, we'll be welcoming Dr Ljiljana Fruk, from the University of Cambridge, on Wednesday 3 April, a talk titled "Repurposing Nature’s Building Blocks; Nano-bio Hybrids for Catalysis and Biomedical Applications".
Bio-nano hybrids are becoming increasingly important not only for design of optoelectronic devices and sensors, including those applied to wearable technology, but also for tissue engineering and drug delivery. In order to preserve inherent and introduce new properties, various chemical strategies have been developed to combine intrinsically different bio and nano structures into stable and functional systems.
The talk focuses on design of bio-nano hybrids using some old and some new chemistry, and their use as enzyme mimics and biocompatible drug carriers and theranostic devices for early detection of cancer.
Refreshments will be served from 10:30, and the seminar will commence at 11:00, in The Mill room C63/64.
