Good Grief: Historical Perspectives on the Regulation of Mourning
University of Manchester, 25 May 2018
Proposals are invited on constructions of grief and the means of consolation found in early modern literature, theology, philosophy and natural philosophy. What are the debates surrounding grief? Are there forms of grief that are perceived as healthy and unhealthy, natural and unnatural? What are the drivers for changes in conceptions of grief and wider mourning practices? What are the forms of consolation available to early modern mourners and in what ways are these resisted and contested? Please send proposals (250 words) for papers and a short CV by Friday, 9 February 2018 to: Naomi.Baker@manchester.ac.uk and Lesel.Dawson@bristol.ac.uk
